Tenom Dragon Fruit
Dragon Fruit, is also known as “Pitaya” in America. These sweet dragon fruits come in three types, all with leathery, slightly leafy skin:
- Hylocereus undatus – pink-skinned fruit with white flesh.
- Hylocereus costaricensis – has red-skinned fruit with red flesh.
- Hylocereus megalanthus – has yellow-skinned fruit with white flesh.
The dragon fruits from Sabahguo is Hylocereus costaricensis (red-skinned fruit with red flesh), which tastes sweet.
The fruit’s texture is sometimes likened to that of the kiwifruit because of its black, crunchy seeds. It can be eaten as fruits by itself, or used to flavor and color juices and alcoholic beverages.
